Kiwi Property Group is one of New Zealand’s largest property companies. The Group has been focused on sustainability for over 16 years and challenged itself to reduce both its environmental footprint and fixed costs to tenants.
The installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system was ideally suited to the Sylvia Park Shopping Centre in Auckland. The plentiful roof space and higher base load electricity demands in summer due to air conditioning demands required a large system which could deliver a more material reduction in the facility’s environmental footprint.
With the installation completed during the Christmas shopping rush, minimising interruptions to businesses and customers was a priority. Equipment deliveries to site were made early in the mornings before customers arrived and roof access was carefully positioned away from public access points.
Vector Powersmart installed a 350 kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system, utilising two large north facing roof spaces. The installation was officially commissioned in January 2015 and was the largest solar installation in the country at the time. The project was delivered on time and on budget.
